The City of London is a city within a city. The City (or Square Mile as it is also known) is the ancient commercial heart of London and as a consequence, contains some of the most iconic buildings in the city, both old and new. What’s exciting to me about the views in the city is the juxtaposition of the classical architecture and the shiny glass and steel towers. It’s not to everyone’s taste I accept, but for the urban artist, it makes for exhilarating scenery. This view is from Cornhill, looking towards the River Thames and takes in mediaeval churches, an underground station and the strikingly modern ‘walkie talkie’ building. A uniquely London view, and a joy to sketch.
